Tumeric Tea for Two
Tumeric Tea has become one of my favourite warm indulgences this time of year. I came across the recipe a few months ago while on Gabriola Island with my mom. It was around the same time that I fell madly in love with making my own almond milk! There is something so satisfying (and satiating) about using fresh ingredients to create nourishment for the body and the soul. What was most fascinating to me about this drink was the vibrancy of its’ colour. Who knew tumeric was as yellow as the sun! (Not to mention, the myriad of health benefits that it brings.) Not only is it an anti-inflammatory, but it also helps fight off cold and flu. Cinnamon has always been a spice and a flavor I have loved, and there’s no better way to warm you up than with a kick of freshly grated ginger! Enjoy this nourishing drink by the fire, and/or in good company. I also recommend drinking it out of a cup or a mug that you really love!
(Organic when possible)
2 cups almond milk (fresh made is best)
2 pitted dates
2 tsp freshly grated ginger
1 tsp tumeric
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1. Though several trials of experimenting with making this drink, I have found it most effective if you combine all the ingredients together in a pot and warm them slightly on the stove so that the dates soften.
2. Once warm, you can pour everything into a high speed blender and blend together. I use my blend-tec and put it on “whole juice” which is a 50 second cycle.
3. Once blended, reheat on the stove to desired drinking temperature. Add cinnamon stick for stirring if you wish.
